Note that Retrospect's verification involves re-reading the file from the computer being backed up and comparing it with the copy. So a verification failure does not mean that the copy was unreadable, but simply that it is not and up-to-date copy. No, it's a wonderful product. Backing up a hard drive to CDs is not a practial backup solution. No product, that I am aware of, does that well. Don't do that.
Get a external drive and use it for backups. If you backup to CDs, you will find it so tedious that you won't do it regularly. If one of the CD's in you backup set goes bad, you're also in trouble. CD's are not good backup media for programs like retrospect. Tape or hard drive is the answer, not CD.
