Fantastic my ass - Ypmits

I really like Fire... I've just tried it again to see how it progressed over the months. A few months ago I've tried Fire to see how far it is compared to other IM-clients. But although it's a nice piece of software, Adium is the one to beat here. It's not a personal thing here, it's hardcore reality... Saying that Adium and others are far uglier than Fire is just nonsense. Saying that anyone who's using these other clients (like Adium etc.) are cheating themselves out of an easier user experience is just a load of bullcrap too. You're either coming from a terrible tasteless Windows-design background or you're a personal friend of one of the Fire-crew. I'm guessing the last one. Fire has a lot of great features and Adium has a lot too, plus a whole bunch more to make life behind computer a lot easier. Applescripts, Emoticons, complete downloadable layouts (which are all auto-installable)... and they do react fast to people's troubles and suggestions. Ah well... in the end it's all a matter of taste offcourse. But I guess there IS a general good and a general bad taste. Adium STILL kicks Fire's hiney.

Fantastic - APGiuliano

I am no friend of any dev in any way shape or form, and I certainly prefer Fire to Adium... Looks like the downloads of Fire are 4.5 to 1 over Adium to date... So far the majority has spoken... Personally I don't care whom has been out longer over the other or how many releases easch has had. Taste is subjective and we all have it, good or bad..to you...

Fantastic - Samurai_Jack

Nice to see a good friendly debate going on here. As one of the Fire developers, I can say that I am definitely biased, but I would ask all of the Adium zealots to do more than just disparage our hard efforts (which come without compensation) and give some constructive criticism.

BTW, there are a few Fire features that Adium doesn't have, that some users might like:

- Profanity filtering
- Automatic translation
- irc support
- Universal Binary - although the Adium team is working on it

And we also have some of the things that earlier posts claim we don't have

- Customizable chat display styles
- Applescript support

In short, it is always a matter of personal preference. If you like interacting with the development community, I have found that we at the fire team are pretty receptive to outside help and input, something that the teams at Adium and Gaim tend to be a bit more closed about.

And also, we are always looking for more people to come join in the development fun. Check out http://www.fireim.org/
