If you have a number of external drives that are often used between many Tiger stations, for example, it is a smart idea to disable spotlight. Also, dashboard widgets, because they are javascript, are very memory-intense. Just open activity monitor one day, and see jjust how many resources are used by the pretty-looking widgets. Now, since I only use 2 external drives on this machine, and they have been indexed, I don't have a need to disable spotlight...but when I do memory and processor-intense thigns, there is often a time when I just want to disable dashboard.

As an audio professional, I didn't buy it for memory killing Widets and time consuming Spotlight searches across everything I'm connected to. Tiger brought major changes and improvements to Core Audio and Core MIDI. That's why I bought it. This app is a godsend. That's why.
