What one purchases when one purchases software is a license to use that software, nothing more. To the extent that the developer offers bug fixes and additional features, the user benefits, while the developer builds a solid reputation for maintenance and improvements. To my knowledge no developer adds value more consistently than Ed Hamrick.
In this case there were two options. The cheaper of the two was chosen, apparently in the odd hope that if the terms were left unread they would not apply.
Last, if one is serious about preserving the functionality of his system over time, he must archive his installers. Then he will never need to beg a man in whose eye he has spat.
