Idiot - brilor--2008

The developer has indeed posted a note regarding the incompatibility with Tiger. This was my mistake and I earned the scathing comment. My apologies. Again, the product is great, just not working in Tiger. As a developer myself, I know the trials of developing. Even as an X beta tester, the target is moving and last minute bugs are sure to bite every developer. Even with that challenge, many developers do their best to produce a product that is compatible with a new OS rev when it is released. Some bugs (especially with new OS revs) are inevitable, but the show stoppers have to be either eliminated before release or fixed/bypassed when found. As (IMHO) one of the premier maintenance utilities, it should be clear that Tiger compatibility will be in high demand. Since authentication isn't used in my apps and I didn't have to surmount this hurdle, it is very possible a last minute change to Tiger invalidated any prior successful tests by the developer. Developers have an implicit but unwritten pact (regardless of price---or freeware) with their users to correct show stopper problems ( lesser problems can clearly wait) as soon as possible. The OnyX developer has a clear history of publishing several releases and is true to the unwritten pact with the customers. I'm confident the OnyX issues will be resolved. Thanks to the person who called me on my mistake.

No, you didn't earn the scathing comment.

His points:

1) Your rating negatively impacts the overall rating of a great product.
-- True.

2) "Apple is to blame"
-- It's a situation. Blame is a choice.

3) "It's your fault for not recognizing that any system level utility would be the first thing to break in this instance."
-- amcgee seems to be saying that if we knew this (seems like you did), we wouldn't be sitting around waiting for a Tiger-compatible version of Onyx.

Huh? "Hey kid, if you knew why the ice-cream machine was broken you wouldn't be sitting around wishing you had some ice cream." To expect users to not want something, and want it now, is unrealistic.

4) You would rather have a crummy upgrade now than wait for a stable one.
-- I didn't see you say that. It seems like amcgee has had some bad experiences with demanding users.

5) We're a bunch of crybabies.
-- I'm just going to let that one sit out there...

Yeah, your use of the rating system was debatable, and you made a factual error about Onyx's statement of incompatibility with Tiger, but you didn't "earn" anything scathing, and he doesn't deserve any gratitude for providing you with a fact during a name-calling session. He's a poo-poo head.
