I have the same problem with my Olympus VN 240PC. The DSS Player (either lite or 1.4.2 E) does not read the Olympus Voice Recorder. It flashes PC and nothing else happens. I have tried contacting in April with chris.sluka@olympus.com but I have yet to receive a response. The guy is with the PR department and earlier I tried contacting the support team, but no response to date.I need this recorder to work. Has anyone made it to work.
Mac iBook G3
V OSX 10.4.1
Thanks,

Uh, I'm pretty sure this device doesn't work with OS X. I could not find Mac compatibility listed anywhere in its documentation. The only Olympus voice recorders that support Mac OS X that I know of are:
DS-150
DS-320
DS-2000
DS-3000
DS-330
DM-1
DM-10
DM-20
DW-10

This is what I was just told by their product support folks: The interface from the Digital Wave player that comes with the VN-240PC and VN-480PC to the PC is a proprietary interface and they have not ported it to the Mac at this time (I doubt they ever will). The DSS and DSS Lite players will not download anything from these 2 voice recorders since they can't interface to them. They are only there so that people with a Mac can play DSS, WAV or WMA files that were generated by one of their other voice recorders. However, the guy I spoke with on the phone told me that he knew of at least 1 person that said they made it work within a PC Emulator on their Mac. I'm going to give that a try and see what happens.Wednesday, November 30 2005 @ 08:36 AM PST

I'm getting the same asinine response from Olympus, "The VN-480PC is not Mac compatible." What idiots and jerks! It's a standard USB interface, the CODEC could be ported to Quicktime in 15 seconds by a decent programmer and the interface be made to simply mount as a DOS disk. Olympus is deliberately alienating an entire segment of happy customers (or at least ~10 customers who have posted right here!) for fear of spending $100 on development costs. After I run over this POS with my truck I'll be shopping for a NON-Olympus product to record my voice, and showing it off to everyone who asks. Stupid Olympus! Now go spend $1000 in advertising to replace this erstwhile happy, now unhappy and lost, customer.Monday, February 27 2006 @ 09:05 AM PST
