I also have a number of applications crash daily... - gaseous1

Your line of reasoning is illogical nonsense. Your statement is only meant to be inflammatory. It doesn't shed any further light on the issue.

It also doesn't address the fact that people have crashing behavior with haxies. After purchasing these utilities and using them, I gradually noticed system instability. This despite hard drive reformats and reinstallation of systems as well as after purchasing new hardware with a completely fresh system installation. I've pulled these programs and have had much less instability. Does that mean that the haxies are solely at fault? No. It certainly is suggestive, however, of some involvement in my symptoms.

Let me say it out and loud: NO.
APE comes last in any enhanced applications crash log simply because the APE hooks get loaded with the application. Unless the application is specifically targeted by one of the haxies you installed, the daemon is dormant and does not interfere in any way.

Just disregard all those voodoo rants such as the response above. Systems and computers cannot be judged on terms of "I noticed this, I have a feeling of that". Had the author of the comment known in detail what APE actually does, he would know very well that he's just talking nonsense.

There are of course haxies which can cause serious system instability. But plain APE, out of the box, does not do anything. Nothing to fear here.

The "line of reasoning" set off my humor detector, especially in light of the posts that preceded it. Please make sure APE has not crashed the humor detectors.

If somebody thinks something is causing a crash, they should simply remove it. If the crash is gone, don't reinstall the item. I don't think anybody "needs" APE. I've had it going forever and don't notice any problems, maybe I'm just lucky, maybe not.
