You do need hardware (supplied in the PhoneValet software/hardware box). If you click on the "Download demo" link, there is a description of their money-back guarantee. Hardware? - Bob Hunter

I wish it were possible to use this software without any
additional hardware. I would use it, but the hardware requirement is unbearable for laptop users. I think the built-in modem port, the speaker and the microphone are good enough for this application, with no need for any extras.
