Upgrading Problems - FritzWizard

First of all, this is an awesome product. I love it. I only just discovered it a few weeks ago, and downloaded beta 0.955b. It was a major, major hassle to set up, which I attributed to the fact that it was a beta. Now that it is set up, I love it. I was somewhat surprised to discover that in the few short weeks since I downloaded it, it had advanced to version 2.x. Nevertheless, I downloaded the updated version and replaced the beta version with the full version. When I launched it for the first time, I fully expected it to encourage me to pay the shareware ($5 - a no-brainer), and to launch, in the meantime, with all my feeds intact.

But it didn't. It opened, but nothing happened. It didn't display the feeds I had set up in the beta version, and really acted like this was the first time I had ever launched the application.

In one sense, that was good news, because I quit the application and threw it away, and re-launched the beta version and, lo and behold, all my feeds were back and everything was as it had been.

In another sense, that was bad news. The developers need to find a way to sense whether a previous version (beta or whatever) was installed, and copy the relevant data necessary to display the configured feeds into the new version, so that it continues to work as before, and then put up a screen that asks the user to pay the shareware fee (if it hasn't already been paid) - and does a seamless job of getting that user to a website that can process a payment in the event the user agrees to pay the shareware fee.

Honestly, that was what I was expecting, and I was disappointed. The good news is that by trashing v2.1 and restoring the beta version, all my feeds were restored.

The bad news for the developers is that I would have gladly paid the $5 shareware (or whatever it is - I'm going off an early post), and recommended it to my friends and family (assuming it had fixed all the problems I have had with the beta in adding new feeds - which were considerable), but I have no reason to do so now.

I think this is a terrific product. But there are important details that have not been attended to, and some of those are details that actually make it difficult for a beta user to upgrade to, (not to mention to pay for), a full shareware license.

On the other hand, if you are new to this product, it is an incredibly good product that you should seriously investigate.
