mencoder's values are based on dimensions of the cropped video frame with an offset. Ffmpeg's values are all based on subtracting values from the top, bottom, left, and right of the video frame.
If it were that easy I wouldn't bother :-) But, if you try to pluck mencoders values into ffmpeg's, you'll end up with an error that the cropped values are out of range.
