Some demo... - brajesh108

An idea... I understand the reluctance to post a working demo because people could just use it once and never pay, but how about allowing it to work with a limited-size disk, maybe a demo dmg partition or something? At least something to know it won't jack your box?

Some demo... - Coriolis Systems

Four comments on this:

  1. If we released a demo with a size limitation, it would be swiftly hacked and posted on a warez site. We would lose a fair number of sales this way, as partitioning utilities are the kind of thing that get bought as and when people need them and are only used infrequently. I'm sorry, but that is not acceptable to us; we have invested a great deal of our time and money in getting to this point, and to have our hard work stolen now would be especially upsetting.

We might be happy to provide some before and after DMG files on our site; by all means let us know what you think of that idea.

  2. If you read the iPartition license agreement, a copy of which we do provide with the demo, you'll see that we are confident enough that our software works that we offer you a 90-day warranty; if the product doesn't work for some reason, you can be assured that we will drop everything to assist you in getting it working. We take pride in the quality of our software and our support.

Note that this does not mean that we accept liability if you do lose data; we are very clear in the instructions that come with the product, and in the dialog boxes within the product, that you should back-up any important files before using iPartition, just in case. Even assuming that you discount the possibility of bugs in our product, there are many factors entirely outside of our control that could result in data loss, ranging from random bit errors in your computer’s memory (yes, this really does happen) through to more down-to-earth problems like power failures and kernel panics.

  3. iPartition has received a substantial amount of testing, especially in critical areas related to the filesystem code. In addition, the filesystem code in iPartition has been written defensively; it is far more likely to refuse to do something than it is to damage your data. Indeed, the majority of the bugs we were fixing in the run-up to the initial release were problems where the consistency checks were too draconian, and since the launch, we have even been able to advise one customer that they needed to run a disk repair tool as a matter of urgency (not as a result of using our program, we hasten to add).

  4. We use iPartition ourselves! It's great for developers, because it makes it much easier to set-up new copies of Mac OS X for test purposes.

In short, we believe we have a solid product and that our customers will be satisfied with its performance in the field.

I should also say that we have many satisfied customers; you would certainly not be a guinea pig.
