Re: Can't See The Point - aamann

The point (just a few of the reasons...)
- random mailbox corruption in Eudora resulting in lost messages
- very weak HTML rendering
- altering of incoming messages and removal of attchments making it almost impossible to archive properly or migrate to another application
- Eudora invented its own version of the standard mbox format - either stick with the standard or completely ignore it!
- tons of legacy code/bad programming making this app slow (why needs Eudora 100% of my CPU when checking for mail and filtering messages? Filterring messages takes forever with many filters sometimes resulting in messages getting lost when filters move them between mailboxes!)
- having to pay once a year for upgrades (not really upgrades but bug fixes...)
- (I could go on here...)

The name ...
... is still left over from a very early version of the program which "cleaned" Eudora mailboxes so that Mail.app was able to at least import them. The program has evolved from there and now does far more (but all that is in the ReadMe...)

Can't See The Point - KernelG

- Spotlight (coming in Tiger).
- Continued development of core email app, not pointless add-ons as an excuse to charge for upgrades while not fixing bugs.

there is a point - sporobolus

plenty of people do like Mail, i can't see the point in being blind to that; i use both (Eudora in nag mode after too many paid updates), and Eudora has great features (look elsewhere for details) but is aging ungracefully, while Mail has a nice interface and good integration but suffers from its simplicity; once or twice in over 10 years i have had corrupted Eudora mailboxes, but Mail can do that too (there are many reports)

Tiger Mail might or might not be good enough for me, but it is sure to be good enough for a lot of others, and Eudora Mailbox Cleaner will be a great aid for switching; even if i don't dump Eudora, i plan to use Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to help set up proper mbox files for a personal mail server, and to help others for whom i consult

so i can see the point
