Panther has the ability to send you an email message in the even someone attempts to break into your Mac, just like LockOut does? Wow, that's news to me!

if you want to invoke the screen saver security on a manual basis, run Keychain Access and select "Show Status in Menu Bar" from the View menu. then you get a menu that allows you to "Lock Screen" and more....
