Checked your Fan? - pdot

Have you checked the fan for your GPU? I'm not sure if the overheating of video cards can cause problems such as yours, but I know that Ati have a bad reputation for their fans. It's all over the xlr8yourmac forums. My R8500 fan is starting to die out (it speeds up and down, when it's working) and I noticed a slight brown coloring on the fan, which probably happened when the fan doesn't start. A little push with my finger starts it up.

Radeon 8500 Driver Problems - gudrick

I don't have 10.3 and I haven't had any kernel panics, but I can vouch for the 8500's fan being garbage. Mine (also in an AGP 400) failed after 6 months (made weird buzzing noises, and finally it would just stop spinning). I replaced it with the fan from my OEM Rage128Pro and it's been fine ever since.

Radeon 8500 Driver Problems - bimble

I can't say what's causing the problem for you, but I have a G4/400 (with a 1GHz upgrade) and a Radeon 8500 running 10.3.3, latest firmware on the card, and the system is quite stable. Definitely sounds like you'll want to look for a hardware problem.
