I have no idea what caused the problem. The program did run for a few seconds, and the first time that it blacked out the screen was immediately after the pieces first began to run upwards.
I have never had a similar problem with any Mac systems.
Although it blacked me out twice, since I removed the program everything seemed to be running fine, except that I had to reset some strange changes that had been made to my sound out preferences, i.e. volume had been turned to zero.
