Upgraded based on the alert that came up when I launched my old Xirc today. It will not open a connection at all now. The warning to modify the file in Preferences does not show up until the readme file appears, and that appears only after the install is complete. Attempting a manual connection presents an Open window, after which the application dies. Choosing new connection causes an immediate crash. An About Xirc causes immediate crash. (on G4 with 10.2.6)
