It is freeware and does provide some shredding, as well as other security functions. Can't knock a versatile freeware app. Thanks DonSL777!
However, as stated in DropTBZ2's own docs, it only overwrites 3x. This may be enough for basic needs. But, there are various software & hardware techniques that can probably thwart it.
SecretShredder's shredding levels are far more advanced, imo.
Do folks need *that* much shredding power? Maybe. Maybe not.
I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. I'd hate to see one of my credit card numbers turn up in the wrong hands, not to mention other personal/sensitive data.
Also, DropTBZ2 doesn't address the shredding of free disk space and/or trash.
Really, if 3x shredding is all one desires, DropTBZ2 will do. But, why not use an app that can do that and more?
On a final note regarding this particular response, SecretShredder's file and folder shredding features *are* free. You don't have to pay anything to use these features at any level (including the Gutmann Method), with full access to the 50x cycle range. The author didn't limit the shredding of files & folders while in free/demo mode (unlike other shredding apps out there).
Compare before paying - ahem!
