Actually, the way the sentence is constructed, "me" is the correct choice. While it is correct to say, "thank you for writing to the elves," it would not be correct to say "thank you for writing to I." If the sentence had read, "The elves and me thank you for writing...," it would be necessary to correct "me" to "I."Sunday, December 07 2003 @ 10:25 PM PST

No, the poster was completely correct: seeing as Santa and the elves are the object in the sentence, rather than the subject, "me" is the correct word choice. One would never say "Thank you for writing I"; it's "Thank you for writing me". It's the same pronoun choice whether the elves are involved or not. If it had been "The elves and me would like to thank you for writing", it's completely correct that that would've been wrong: example, you would never say "Me would like to thank you for writing"; it's "I would like to thank you for writing". One can always check one's grammar in these instances by removing the elves... Well, you get what I mean at least. :PSunday, September 11 2005 @ 10:28 AM PDT

So does the poster below! "the elves and I" is correct grammar. Where did you learn to say "and me"? In the Richmond Public School System?Reply to This
