The install is weird and fussy, I'll admit. Basically, run the package installer WITHOUT having the iPod plugged in. After package installer has run, plug the iPod in and follow the instructions. At one point you have to unplug the iPod to finish the install, and that should do it. I did have to reset the iPod once during the process, but the install did complete without having to resort to a restore. Sorry to hear about your woes. ~t
