Same thing happened to me! Just reboot, bluetooth comes back. Then update while its on and devices connected to it are turned off. Hope hope it works for you too.

See my comment above. I check System Preferences and the Blue Tooth pref pane had disappeared. Weird. I restarted, zapped PRAM, and low and below it had returned. Do not use the individual utilities. Turn Bluetooth on and reconfigure it (all my prefs were gone) and then, with Bluetooth turned on, run the updater again and it worked perfectly. My problem was with my Albook. I just updated my G5 and made certain that Bluetooth was turned on. Why zapping PRAM made the mysteriously disappeared preference panel reappear I don't have a clue. It worked.
