I clone my OSX G4 hard drive to a firewire drive, and then boot an older G3 Powerbook from the firewire drive. The G3 looks, feels, and works as if it is the G4. I did not clone the G4 to the G3's internal hard drive due to the hard drive's capacity limitations, but there should be no difference from the firewire drive. CCC is just outstanding; buy several firewire or USB external drives, clone your main system to them, put one in a fireproof safe, and you should never have to worry about system or hard disk drive failure again.
