If you want a simple but effective program that reminds you every year about birthdays, anniversaries or similar important dates, WITHOUT the need to constantly feed iCal, look no further -- this is the best one for OS X.
Just create a list ONCE (with Geburtstagschecker or as a text file) of all the important dates in a year (of course you can always edit it again later) and you're DONE.
I've been using Geburtstagschecker since version 1.01 (after having tried several others) and am very happy with it.
No crashes or similar problems!
