Has anyone else had trouble booting a machine using the Data Rescue 3 bootable DVD? I have a 2.0 GHz DP Power Mac G5 that kernel panics when I attempt to boot it using the DVD. The same DVD boots a Power Mac G4 with no problem.

Standard Boot DVD - Prosoft

Please contact our support department to look into this:

The Booting portion of the boot DVD is code supplied by Apple as part of the DDK (Disc Development Kit) and we don't modify that at all (not even allowed to modify that actually, per agreement with Apple).. So the booting portion is not something that we produce/modify, but rather directly from Apple...

With that said, it seems that your specific Mac is listed as supported by the latest boo DDK released by Apple. Therefore it should work fine..We have not heard of any other issues from others with that same machine..

When you contact support, we can look at making a new boot DVD image for you, using an older boot DDK which may not exhibit that kp- There is no value for you to "have to use" the latest boot DDK, if there are older DDKs that support your machine fine. The "latest" boot DDK only offers a value to the brand-new machines that require the latest boot technology to work (your machine does not require that, and therefore we can make a DVD image for you using any of the previous booting portions..) The issue you are seeing may be specific to your actual Mac, or may be an issue with Apple's boot DDK, either way, we may have some options to look at..

Another option is to ask if you have a bootable Firewire drive. If you do, you should be able to boot up your machine from it, then run Data Rescue 3 as an app and scan you main internal drive...

But please do contact our support team, this sounds like a unique problem that we should have some second options for...
