I'm not comfortable with Google software reporting any computer info back to the company. Please read the privacy statements that appear when first starting the application to make sure you're OK with Google's policies. Just an advisory.

GE v.5 privacy issues - davrowen

I'm beginning to wonder what information GoogleSoftwareUpdater actually does send back. Since upgrading to GE 5.0 I've had to put up with having to click on an alert box every day to tell Intego NetBarrier to allow the updater to phone home - because, I guess, of where Google have chosen to hide the updater (in Macintosh HD/Library/Google/) NetBarrier refuses to learn from the fact that I've previously granted permission like it does with most other applications.
So, anyway, you might suppose that at least I would be informed when Google have updated Google Earth? Well, GE 5.1 has been out for a couple of days now and....Nothing!
Also, the "Check for Updates Online" facility in GE 5.0 returns nothing. I only know about GE 5.1 because of VersionTracker.

The problem goes beyond privacy. Twice I tried to use Google Earth 5.x and both timers had the same disastrous results: system corruption!

Both times I was forced to do a complete system reinstall included updaters. This took three to four days each time.

I will NEVER willingly use Adobe software ever again!

Uh...Google isn't Adobe--not by a long shot. And if that were a Google problem, don't you think there'd be more reports?
