After spending 1.5 hours trying to figure out why INNODB was not working I discovered (not documented on the main site or release notes (where are they???) but the blog):
http://blog-en.mamp.info/2009/09/mamp-and-innodb-at-mysql.html
"The MySQL Version 5.1 packaged in MAMP 1.8 does not contain the Storage-Engine InnoDB. We are actually working on the implementation of InnoDB. We soon will be releasing MAMP 1.8.1. This new version will fix the issue."
As much as a huge fan of MAMP/MAMP PRO that I am (normally 5 stars) I wish that there had been a bit more QA (this release 1 star—boo!).
I went back to version 1.72 for now.
