Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

Recommend Product: YES

It is unfortunate but true. We still need this. For despite the many improvements in Snow Leopard, Apple foolishly refused to empower us with the means to select a "section" of the screen to take a video of. Who wants an enormous video of the entire screen on 24" iMacs or 30" big screens? The filesize becomes ridiculous (and yes, I am aware of the Animation codec which is very crisp yet compact for videos of the screen). SnapzPro solves this problem very nicely by giving me flexibility on what I can capture on screen.

But my gripe is voiceover compression. Why can't Snapz Pro give me the means to compress the microphone audio in a modern format like MP3 or AAC? Instead I have to compress using one of the silly choices SnapzPro gives me, which sounds quite bad and isn't that small in terms of filesize either. It's a major problem which is not being address.

Another concern is, why did it take Snow Leopard for this software to be updated? It hadn't been updated in ages and now the developer sighs and says, "Blasted! We have to update it." That's how I, a user, perceive it anyway. Improve your software, for goodness sake, and don't wait for OS updates to do it!

Hello from Ambrosia - AmbrosiaSW

We are happy to see that the features are still proving to be beneficial to it's users, even though the product is not something we could classify as a spring chicken. We at Ambrosia fully agree that our product Snapz Pro X has been around for quite sometime, though it was updated in April, so it's not only when OS updates happen. What people seem to forget is that Ambrosia is not just sitting back, unwilling to listen to it's customers and plan for a future. As it has been said on many other posts below, Ambrosia is continually making minor updates and fixes to this product, while our main focus is on even more innovative products and utilities.

We have been extremely busy working on utilities that will no doubt wow the users of our products, and raise the bar on what to expect from screen capturing and video capturing. Since we still are a small company, I can't offer any date to expect a release, but know that our programmers are diligently working away on these ideas.

To address concern of voiceover compression; We are on it! Expect to be pleasantly surprised in the future!

We are hoping that the successor for Snapz will be available in the near future that should impress even the most rigid of those who feel ill towards our venerable Snapz Pro X. To learn more about our future products please visit our webboards, or sign up for our announcement lists.

Thank you, Ambrosia! - Jason!

I must say that I am pleasantly surprised, and humbled, that the developer has taken their time to not only examine my comment here on Versiontracker but also to express a public commitment to adding more audio compression settings in a future update! This is rare and truly worthy of praise!

Thank you for a great product, and please keep up the great work, Ambrosia!

Still needed, and so are audio improvements - ManikGrafik

Actually, Apple HAS provided you with a way to capture not only a portion of the screen but a single screen by itself. If you hit cmd+shift+4, you are able to draw around a portion of your screen. If you hit cmd+shift+4+spacebar, you can select one window... so... yeah. Give that a try. :-)

ManikGrafik, you haven't the faintest idea what you are talking about. I made it very clear I was speaking about VIDEO. Your trick only works for stills.

Ambrosia, it's been 2.5 months since you posted here about my being impressed in the "near future." Since I define "near future" as "within 3 months," please impress me this month with the ability to choose MP3 or AAC audio when I take screen captures with SnapzPro. Thank you!
