Hard drive collapse

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Attempting an upgrade to OS 10..5.8 on a G4 Powerbook, software update reported a lack of space. I therefore set Drive Genius to look for unwanted localisations and unneeded universal binaries and cache and temporary files and went to bed. The next morning the drive was dead and proved irrecoverable by Disk Utility and Disk Warrior which could not even see the Partition. I can only presume that DG drove the hard drive into the ground with its scanning. This was not a new machine but the HD failure at this time was too much of coincidence for me. A most unfortunate and expensive outcome from the first attempt at using this costly software. I would not recommend.

Please contact our Technical Support Department - Prosoft Engineering

Hello,

This is David from Prosoft Techical Support. We haven't seen anything like this occur with DriveSlim or Drive Genius, so the age of the drive may have played a factor. When you scan the entire drive, you are putting a drive through its paces so to speak, so if your drive was on the verge of failing the scanning may have put it over the edge. Once again though, this is the first time we've heard of this happening to a customer, so we would like to try to get some more information from you about your system- Please contact our Technical Support Department at 925-426-6306 between 7AM and 5PM Monday to Friday.
