Almost Unusable

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

Under OS X 10.2.7, Safari 4.0.2 would not launch. Would hang every time as "not responding." It would then require a "three finger salute" to force quit it. Note that I tried everything that was suggested on numerous forums and by Apple to fix this to no avail. I am no "Apple amateur."

I finally reverted to 3.2.3. FYI, I use a early 2008 early Macbook Pro.

I was somewhat pleased that it seemed to work after I installed OS X 10.5.8 (which installed 4.0.2 by default). However, I'm finding that atartup freezing issues now happen intermittently enough to cause me to again revert to 3.2.3. I'd rather have something functional rather than something with a wow factor that works only 75% of the time.

The eye candy and new functionality is great IF the software works. Unfortunately, it is not ready for prime time.

See my Troubleshooting note here on how to revert to 3.2.3 (it's impossible to revert without some alchemy and third-party software, which is another failing by Apple).

Consider Camino (my main browser) or Firefox instead. With some sites that are not Mac-friendly, I even need to use Opera at times.

Almost Unusable - quattleb

If you really tried it on 10.2.7 then YOU failed to notice it is only for 10.4.11 and 10.5.7 and 10.5.8 and should NOT be rating it low based on that mistake.

If you meant to type 10.5.7 then that would indicate a problem with your editing and possibly with Safari. :-)
