Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

I upgraded from 10.5.7 today to 10.5.8 and now I have a boatload of permissions problems when I run Disk Utility. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know any cures?

I've had the same problem since the update once before but don't seem to have problems with any programs.

Cures to permissions problems... lets see, what cold that be? Um... Disk Utility?

Installed on a G5 PPC and Macbook. All good. There were a lot of permissions problems. Disk Utility snagged 'em.

I'm having the same problem. Disk Utility reports a long list as being repaired, then shows the same long list when verifying repairs after they are supposedly complete.

It doesn't necessarily mean there's any problem. It's not that unusual for the info that the disk utility reads for permissions "repair" (it's really more of a "reset") to be rearranged (and not necessarily changed) after an OS update. If it shows a bunch of permissions repairs, but ends with the usual "premissions repaired successfully" message then I doubt there's anything to worry about.

If you install the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update (759 MB) - Upgrade from any version of OS X 10.5 Leopard - this will remove all (or most) permission issues... If they bother you...

* Also, these permission issues can be safely ignored according to Apple.

Did you check permissions before you ran the updater? If not, how do you know the update caused the problem? I have screensful of permission repairs each time I run Disk Utility on 10.5.7, but we've been told before on MacFixit not to worry about them.

See: <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9946202#9946202>

There would seem to be permissions problems with both the Combo and Delta 1.5.8 update files, at least for some of us...

There was a bunch of permission issues before, and they're still here after installing the combo-update 10.5.8. Not a big deal but a little annoying; hope Apple fixes that in Snow Leopard.

For the first time in years, when I upgraded my Late-2008 Unibody 13" 2.4 GHz MacBook from OS 10.5.7 (which always had a TON of screwed-up permissions that simply would not be fixed) to 10.5.8 ALL MY PERMISSIONS PROBLEMS WERE SOLVED! No more screwed-up permissions! Yippeeeee!
