"1.1.4 is terrible" - but in what v. of OS X, on what architecture, do you speak? - tommmyboy_sf
It is very frustrating when I update a piece of software that has just sort of melded its way into my every day life and I don't give it a second thought for, say, years... until one day it breaks just out of the blue, or after an upgrade, and all of sudden my smooth every day routine isn't so smooth and frankly, now that I have a problem to deal with, I usually get pretty irritated. I can tell you each and every time it's happened, I've always called somebody or emailed somebody and *censored*ed about it for 10 minutes. So it sucks to feel like that. But your review... I understand exactly where you are coming from with it, but it's irresponsible to make such disparaging remarks without offering much more than a few of your symptoms. Perian is a MUST HAVE if you watch and deal with a lot of video on Mac and if someone comes to this forum who is new and reads your review who needs the support Perian provides, they may just throw up their hands and capitulate to being screwed.
I am not quite sure how you pin it all down to Perian... you must have uninstalled the PrefPane and certain things worked again? Or it happened right after the upgrade?
It could be related to your system architecture (PPC or Intel), it could be related to your OS version. Do you have problems in QT AND Nice? I use Nice as my everyday entertainment player because it's sharp and it looks great and its got a freakin playlist. But its not even at v. 1 yet and I think the developer has gone on to other things that you won't see much more. So it's still a little buggy.
There are so many things that the developers at Perian need to know to be able to evaluate your situation and unfortunately, because your information is so incomplete and those folks are totally direct and to the point and all about getting business done that your problems may just go unaddressed.
