I manage two small but growing multilingual websites and recently embarked on a personal cleaning and optimising "crusade" on both of them.

You might be forgiven for being sceptical (like me) about this software and what it says it does, especially when the majority of free or cheaper tools have a tendency to leave your scripts unusable. But it really does work.

There are several intelligent things about WebSite Maestro, which appear to be small details but when put together are very powerful:

- It's made for people who are too busy or not willing to spend time configuring options.
- It's safe - it makes a copy of your webfolder, so you work with originals.
- It has routinely cut 20% off my web pages and the results in the browser are amazing.
- It optimises other scripts and images.
- The price is very reasonable for the top-of-the-range product.
- If there's a problem, the support is exemplary.
