MM was a handy utility. I like to have as few menu items cluttering up my menu--even though I use Menu Eclipse. While other free utilities do what MM does/did, it is convenient as a menu item.
Now, with some minor changes, the developer is charging $20. As if that is not bad enough, you get nagged to register. And, I have got a message saying that "the security of MainMenu has been breached" and I need to download and install a new copy. In the span of 4 days, I have had this problem 3 times! This is ridiculous. I am permanently uninstalling this piece of s***.
PS The best way to run the cron scripts is to have the free PseudoAnacron set to open at login.

I am glad I am not the only one disappointed by this update. Seems that Creativebe "acquired" Main Menu from santasw.com. Their "about" page mentions they are in the market to acquire mac applications.I am disappointed in Santasw. Not so much as selling out (congratulations! You sold your product!) but in that I had donated money for how much I liked/used it, then this. Gone. No notice. And to top it off, re-made into $20 nagware.
I will not part with $20 until I know it's good, entitles me to several upgrades (not updates) without further payment. And stop the nagware already.
Alas, I am glad I kept the older version around.

What I don't like - singnarayani
Mainmenu tells me there is an update but no word of that it is now a paid software and not free anymore. I like to know beforehand when I am supposed to pay for somethin. Now there's this nag that tells me I have to pay for something.. So yes I want the old version and will take another program.Thursday, July 16 2009 @ 10:48 PM PDT
What I don't like - Points
Agree on all of the above--no notice that the "upgrade" was going to turn off in 15 days etc.And it has a bug: when using Photoshop Elements, if you do "auto levels" adjustment [shift+ cmd + L] MainMenu comes up instead on top of PE.

Guys -- here's what really happened: The guy who built MainMenu got out of the business -- he couldn't keep developing it. For a long time he had a note on his site saying that the rights to the software were up for sale. The people who are selling it now paid him some amount of money to be able to get the rights to the software ... and these people want to charge for it, unlike the guy who developed it.Sunday, July 26 2009 @ 01:09 PM PDT

I think everyone gets that. $20 for an "upgrade" that doesn't boast any new features and deletes a pretty big one is ridiculous.Thursday, July 30 2009 @ 12:59 PM PDT
Link to previous (''free'') MainMenu still active today - summerstormpictures
The download link for the original free version of MainMenu is still active. Hopefully someone else will provide another link by tomorrow.http://soldiersofpawns.110mb.com/MainMenu%201.7.4.zip
(you will probably have to copy and paste the above into your browser)
I would also go to your user Library/Preferences folder and delete ''com.santasw.MainMenu.plist'' before running the old version just in case there is some disabling code of some sort insinuated by the ''new'' version.
Also, I suggest you disable automatically checking for new version. This should bring you back to the glory days of the one and only ''real'' MainMenu.
