Rakka, the previous developer has said for a long time that this app was not going to be free at the 2.0 update. The new developer that acquired MainMenu will be providing future development.
I have been using MainMenu for years (for free) and love the app. The previous developer (Rakka) had problems that prohibited him from keeping up with things and was very open about it in the past... I donated to the project and to help Rakka out... He replied that there would be no charge at the 2.0 update when the app would become commercial.
This morning when MainMenu notified me that there was an update available, I emailed the new owner (Phillip) and he said there would be no problem and that he would honor what Rakka said...
I jumped the gun before I got Phillip's reply (15 min) and went ahead and paid $20 for this 2.0 version anyway because I LOVE MainMenu and I thought the new developer needed to make his investment back... MainMenu is worth $20
I have also found that in version 2.0 the entire UI has changed and looks great! There are also new utilities to run inside MainMenu! The main thing is that it will see future development... I think it is good hands now.
Since I had already paid for this new version, Phillip, (the new developer) offered me a choice of his other software for "free". I thought that was the right thing to do and he did it...

But then why, being so meticulous and responsive and so on is the ''freeware'' designation conveniently still indicated on the VersionTracker listing? This is not a good indication. Why would they also bring into their portfolio SlidePad, which is a blatant ''repurposing'' of sideNote--and then charge for it?I used MainMenu 1.0 for eons as well and will obviously continue to do so since it works just fine--and I mean fine. What other utilities does one need?
If you're in need of ''pro'' level ''hard-core'' system cleaning and maintenance, just install AppleJack. That will give you a much more thorough ability to take care of odd problems that crop up--before booting into the Apple OS.
...oh, and it's free.
