I downloaded the reader direct from Adobe to my Leopard / G4 system. When opening the installer package, a window with a strange logo and name appeared (seems Adobe created a custom installer and outsourced it to another company). After typing in my password and heeding the other prompts, a progress bar appears and after about 10% the whole installer disappears. It leaves a defunct Acrobat Reader app on my system, though if I try to open it I am told that the program needs updating. If I agree to update, it downloads and installs something which gets the app working, but leaves my system without any PDF web browser plugin whatsoever. At this point, neither Firefox 3.5 nor Safari 4 can view embedded PDFs, leaving me without a way to access some online bank statements and shipping labels at sites like Paypal and UPS.
