Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

I've been happy with VLC in the past, but an now very sad that my (guessing 3 year old) $7000 (upgraded) G5 quad is basically END OF LIFE in the eyes of Apple and everyone else joining in.

Does that mean your 0.9.9a copy has stopped working? Mine is still working fine on a Powerbook G4 -- and I suspect it will continue to do so for years to come. BTW, my version of Word 4 is still working on my SE/30 -- and it can still print to my LaserJet 4M as well today as it did in 1993 when I bought both used for cheap. Pretty cool to have 16 years on that machine, and aside from the web, it is as useful for writing letters as any pretty current Apple product.

Don't get so sad that the developers are trying to craft their latest code for the latest platform -- their older products will work with your older products until YOU decide to unplug them. Of course, contributing to the open $ource projects may get you an update, too :)

I'm with you. I only paid a total of $823.00 for my Mac G4 and all the hardware I've added to make it run fast, but for Apple to yank the rug out from under us like that is unconscionable. I guess corporate greed knows no bounds. I'd love to see some company come out with motherboards for all the old Macs that sported multi-core Intel chips that out-performed current Mac models. That's be a big thumb in Apple's pie.

Well, 10.5 will run on most all G4s, even a Dual-450 with a small text change in an installer file...
