Beware of Catalog Limitations

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

Recommend Product: NO

The most glaring problem of Expression is the catalog size is still limited to 1.8GB or 128,000 files, despite more than a year of complaints from users. The support boards are full of comments pleading with MS to remedy this problem to no avail.

Here's a response post from head of MS Media Expression Support:

"The Expression Media development team is painfully aware that the limits imposed by the current file format are insufficient, particularly in this day of larger and larger media files. Dev is committed to improving on this in the future." - September 23, 2008

I would highly recommend checking the Microsoft Expression Media support boards to see if the problem has been addressed before purchasing this product.

Beware of Catalog Limitations - info3982

I was almost ready to try it... From their web site, though, the TryIt tab is broken.

That sent up warning flags and brought me here for the straight scoop. Here I read the sad facts that M$ is less concerned about the product and more about its value to boost Office and/or tie into other products like the Expression lineup.

It's hardly an Adobe killer, even though they tried to bundle Expression Media as one part of a media management, design, and publishing portfolio. I can't speak for the other components, but Media doesn't even get a trial from me...

And I still have iViewMedia Pro 3.1.1 on my MacPro (which no longer imports any JPEG or RAW format media, BTW)

Good luck with that!
