Very Unstable Update

Feedback Type:  Troubleshooting Report

Contributed by: michaelfrankel Wednesday, June 03 2009 @ 06:07 PM PDT

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

I ran this update on two different computers, a dual 2.0 G5 and a MacBook Pro.

On the G5, the auto update feature of the Airport Utility wanted to launch Classic. Tried this multiple times with the same result. Downloading and running the updater manually worked fine.

The problems were on the MacBook Pro. I used Software Update, and also updated QuickTime & iTunes at the same time. Ran the updates, then rebooted.

After reboot, EVERYTHING crashed (Airport Utility, Safari, Firefox, Disk Utility, Crash Reporter, etc) - all of them crashed.

Finally shut down the computer and re-booted with verbose logging (command-V) at startup. Then things seem to work (at least for now).

Did someone test this thing before it was released????
System Info:

G5: Dual 2.0GHz G5, 4.5 GB RAM, OS 10.4.11, 2 internal drives & 1 external firewire drive.

MacBook Pro: 2.2 Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, OS 10.5.7, 1 internal drive plus Bootcamp Partition.

Very Unstable Update - macguruguy

Seems to me that there are other issues with your machine. This utility should not cause all of the programs you listed to crash.

Hm, seems there are other problems there, not the updte itself, even if this may not be excluded.

Not the right place for a joke - Andreas..

Seasoned Mac users appreciate that you meant your post as a joke but please spare a thought for newbie users who might believe what you say even if obviously ridiculous.

I have to agree with Andreas. Software Update certainly had no problem of any kind installing this update on my iMac G5 1.8 GHz or my new MacBook aluminum, and everything has integrated seamlessly.

Very Unstable Update - smokesilver

I just performed this update on my MacBook Pro and now my Airport card is not picking up any of the wireless signals in my house, even though my PowerBook G4 can see and use my Time Capsule-based wireless signal just fine.

Is anyone else seeing this?
