It appears the build 3844 installer isn't properly unloading the kernel extensions (as shown in the log during installation), which leads to a kernel panic on shutdown/restart. It also appears to have disabled syncing with my iPhone (but iTunes was able to override/re-enable syncing). Just be forewarned...
