Two more things that hold Bento back from being really useful - one very basic and the other a bit less so:
1. Apparently no ability to style text at all. Why can't I make some fields Bold or Italic? This is SO basic it's not true! And it's not as if keeping it simple is a defence for this - it's such a basic feature that no-one could be confused by it, and it's the type of thing that you don't have to use if you don't want to.
2. No calculations - at all! For example I have the requirement to calculate the yearly rent payable from the monthly rent for a property, but Bento can't even do this. I also can't set a field to be a total of a range of records (although to be fair there is the summary function, but it is very inflexible).
Filemaker need to get the balance right between being easy-to-use (which by and large they have successfuly done) and being underpowered to be useful. At present it is the latter which characteristic which sadly predominates.

Further limitations -- no calculations?? - Appledogx
Yes, it does have rudimentary calculations and a bare mininum of summarization features, but far too limited for all but the most basic operations. You cannot sum the digits in a number as far as I can tell. You cannot vary a calculation by a condition, for example a commission calculation that varies by the total amount of sales. Filemaker seems over protective of its Pro product to the point that it really looks for ways to keep Bento from being the great product it could easily become.Wednesday, September 30 2009 @ 11:12 AM PDT
Further limitations -- "collections" - dougtheslug73
Your comment about selecting a range of records. That's what "Collections" are. A range of records. Beautiful.Saturday, September 19 2009 @ 11:52 PM PDT

Gee, I had no problem doing what you say can't be done, choosing "calculated" as a field type and entering the formula..What do you smoke?
The other thing about "bold" is totally a non-issue. You should stay on topic -- things like sharing files...very problematic. Quit tossing in red herrings.
