My iMac has an NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 512MB rather than a ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card. My 'Software Update' indicated that I should install this update. Is that correct? How do I check whether I should?

This update should fix the issue in Boot Camp, also for the NVIDIA iMacs! When you check Apples website you will read that the requirements are 10.5.6 or later. Not 10.5.6 or later with the Radeon card!
Anyway, the firmware installer is "smart" and will not install when it's not needed!

I suspect Software Update doesn't go so far as to check the video type. If you download the update, it's placed in the Utilities folder. When you try to run it, that's when you're told you won't need it.Saturday, May 02 2009 @ 08:29 PM PDT

The safest way to be sure whether you need it or not is to download the stand-alone installer for it from Apple's website. When the installer opens, it should say "this computer does not need this update" and it shouldn't install it if it isn't needed or it will install it without the message if it does need it. (If you use Software Update, I'm not sure whether you will get the same dialog or if it will just install it.) You can always check the Apple user support forums for more info if you don't want to risk doing it without finding out from Apple. Hope this helps.Richie
