I loved to use Firefox as a small and fast browser, simply good!
But Firefox 3 is unusable on an iMac G5 2,1 GHz, because it's the slowest Firefox, even the slowest software in general, that I know.
FF 2 was still O.K., but version 3 is developed sloppily, what you can see at some small facts:
- The magnifying icons are still broken (white border, came with version 3).
- Since version 3.0.5 and with this 3.0.10, too (!) the user agent is
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042315 Firefox/3.0.5, Ant.com Toolbar 1.1
3.0.5? Ant.com Toolbar? :-/
- Hovering bookmarks with the cursor is the slowest procedure you can imagine on any computer.
- I had sent many remarks, questions and wishes to the Mozilla developers (http://hendrix.mozilla.org/). Nothing (!) happened, not a sinlge word was answered, not a single bug (e. g. those mentioned above) was fixed.
Mozilla, *KMA*!
Add-ons are a great and the only reason to use FF. Look at Safari 4 Beta: It is really fast, stable, and reders websites properly! Firefox is about to turn out to be a big botch! I can't recommend it anymore.
