Snapz has served me well over the years. I agree that it's getting long in the tooth especially since it does much of what Grab (which comes free with OS X) does, but has a better interface. I use it primarily grabbing movies. I primarily use Little Snaps or Voila for screen grabs since they have built in edit tools.
My biggest complaint is the inability to use newer apps to open the screen grabs in. It still offers Appleworks. It should allow me to use an app of my choice not theirs. I have started using Acorn for light work, other times I use Graphic Converter which the only other choice other than Preview that they offer that I have.
It needs an overhaul and feature targeted feature enhancements. One thing I would like to see is a menu bar icon to interact with the app. It is difficult to quit unless you have your secret decoder ring properly set.
