Why is updating Office 2008 always such a godawful pain? At least on this occasion, the usually pointless Auto Update application actually managed to find the update. I'm running 10.4.11 and have Office 12.1.5 (any guesses what happened to 12.1.6? I can't find a reference to it anywhere), but the 12.1.7 updater apparently cannot find a version of the software that it can update. Well done, Office Mac team.

When will I learn?

Why must it always be this way? - chesters

I am having the same problem. I am running Mac OS X 10.5.6 and Microsoft Office 12.1.5. The 12.1.7 update says the version on my computer is not the correct one for this update. I've looked for 12.1.6 but can't find it. I even tried updating inside Microsoft Office and it only found the 12.1.7 update. If we need a 12.1.6, where is it?

Same thing is happening to me: running 10.5.6 and MSO 12.1.5, and it says You cannot install Office 2008 12.1.7 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume. How the other people here got their copy to update is a mystery to me, as much as why some of us cannot. What a mess.
