I bought v 1.3 plus a bundled headset at the 2009 Mac Expo with high expectations after reading glowing reviews by David Pogue and being impressed with the demo at the Expo. Despite repeated attempts to "train" it, extensive use of the reference materials, the application is a blood-pressure-raising disaster. The last thing I dictated before coming over to versiontracker to render my opinion was "hate hate hate." At least MacSpeech got that right.
Accuracy is not the main problem. The main problem is inaccurate interpretation of revision commands, together with a limited set of them, rendering it impossible to follow "the golden rule" of dictation programs, which is not to mix speech with typing. Time and again I have dictated paragraphs only to find them irrevocably disappear because the program's selected all the dictation and deleted it when I just wanted to undo my last command. A multiple undo function seems like a no-brainer in a program like this but it doesn't exist.
The capper is a decidedly unhelpful and niggardly return policy. Forget about a refund if you're not happy with the program. Their position is "it's your fault."
