OpenOffice v3 DOES require X11 - Jay

You are incorrect, OpenOffice DOES require X11, as stated in OpenOffice v. 3.0.1's VersionTracker webpage, "In order to use OpenOffice, you first have to download and install the latest build of X11 from Apple."

OpenOffice v3 does NOT require X11 - LMaui

You are incorrect, OO v3 does NOT require X11...

Check the docs..

OO v3 is a native Mac OS app now.

OpenOffice v3 - LMaui

Have you seen OO v3?

If nothing else the interface is much more Mac like in Neo Office.

OO is like a throwback to old windows software.

OpenOffice v3 - Jeff Mincey

If OpenOffice is a throwback to anything, it's to X11 and traditional X11 window managers. It has nothing to do with Windows and never has.

Also, the original poster said from the start that OpenOffice doesn't require X11 -- that's his point. Between NeoOffice and OpenOffice, (both of which run native), what are the pros and cons of each?

OpenOffice v3 - afterhours

NeoOffice = PPC / x64

OpenOffice = Intel-only.

I see you've not been using Neo very long: stick with it, check their discussion forums to see for yourself how amazing the developers' responsiveness is. These guys know Macs every which way. OO is certainly good and it is, of course, the basis of Neo. But OO is Windows first, Linux second, and Mac only third.

These two comparison pages may be helpful to those trying to decide between NeoOffice and OpenOffice.org:

http://neowiki.neooffice.org/index.php/NeoOffice_3.0_Feature_Comparison

http://neowiki.neooffice.org/index.php/NeoOffice_Performance_Comparison

The NeoOffice developers are very active in the NeoOffice forums, responding to issues. This is not the case with the OpenOffice.org forums, which are user-to-user forums only.
