I bought this browser when it was the only one that worked correctly for an important website I needed to use. I've kept up with the updates and then as of the last update, noticed it was now free. If they were going to go free, they should have upped the version to six or something. Why should the version we paid for now be free?
You may think I'm splitting hairs, but we paid for version 5.x and now everyone gets what we PAID for, FREE. By upping the version to six, they would have least honored those who supported the product with money and created a clean break for their new free product. I've given them a lot of money over the years for products, I own most of the pro versions of their apps and I am disappointed they couldn't handle a transition like this a little better. You have to wonder if they just take the money we have paid for product and updates for granted. Maybe they should choose another role model other than Redmond.

Disappointed In OmniGroup - morepowerfulastronaut
Indeed, this post presents a very strange argument. Once they make the browser free, attaching a higher version number to it doesn't make it any different, nor should it make people who paid for the app feel any better (shouldn't it make you feel worse if your paid version was 5. but the freeloaders get 6??). I don't think there's any reason to be bitter for paying for the application anyway. Those of us who did have been getting the benefits of OW for far longer than the people who are just picking it up now that it's free. Besides, you'll never have to pay an upgrade fee again (and a real version 6 is coming). The decision to make it free seems like a reasonable move from Omni, as it will likely increase the browser's popularity. What is even better, and somewhat surprising, is that since it went free, it seems to be getting more attention from Omni than it has for a very long time. Finally, the recent addition of the Gopher protocol pretty much makes OW the best browser evar!!Wednesday, April 01 2009 @ 12:43 PM PDT
Not Disappointed In OmniGroup Since 2004 - zunipus
Personally, I'd been concerned that OmniGroup had let us all ride OmniWeb version 5.x for such a long time (SINCE August 2004!) without charging us another update fee, if only to pay their developers for the continual improvements. Then version 5.9.0 is FREE? And then v5.9.1 provides a massive bunch of fixes and added features? And I'm supposed to be 'disappointed' with OmniGroup?!
I don't think so.
The best of the Mac browsers lives on, in style, for free. It remains my default browser. Thank you OmniGroup! ((smoochy-smooch))
