While my wife uses Safari and it renders fairly quickly I simply can't find another browser updated so frequently, runs so solidly considering the amount of extensions and themes available and concurrently used as well as being heavily (and "heavily" is an understatement here) option-laden via "about:config" as Firefox.
Adding the "extensions.checkCompatibility" boolean option here is useful as many older add-ons continue to work, usually the add-on developer has to specify what version(s) of Firefox the add-on is compatible with and FF may disable it otherwise, despite it's still being functional.
Firefox with AdBlock Plus and NoScript alone make for a win-win situation-can you imagine visiting sites like YouTube and Facebook with NO ADS visible anywhere? Add to that; DownloadHelper, CustomizeGoogle amongst the plethora of other useful add-ons with no freeware or absolutely no equivalent via other browsers...
Personally I've not experienced the problems with FF expressed by others. I'd suggest running AppleJack once in awhile to repair the disk, repair files, clear the caches and repair permissions which should be done once in awhile no matter what browser client you choose.
For my wife, Safari's fine... for me, it's going to remain Firefox.

The updates to safari are Called WEBKIT nighties . Apple only updates the actual menus and options. When Webkit updates all browsers can get the same features.
Take the topsites page on safari.
Omniweb, Icab, sunrise all added a simular pages ages ago as soon as Webkit was good enough at the rendering of the pages...
