Although this software is wonderful, don't even consider buying it if you want to manage a scanner over a network (local or otherwise). Hamrick has said they don't plan to support networked scanners. That's sad really, since networked scanners are more and more common and that feature really should be part of any Pro software.

I've used the software for years to manage various scanners, but the software is useless on my networked Brother color laser all-in-one.

Still, if you don't have any networked scanners, VueScan is a solid piece of work that still needs some UI usability enhancements (though it has improved over the years).

Great software, lacks network support - bplaney

It needs no network support - you can use Share Screen from the Fiinder or programs like Remote Desktop or Timbuktu - quite easy to drive the scanner from whatever machine it is connected to.

I believe the original comment was referring to scanners that are not connected directly to any computer. They use an ethernet interface (possibly WiFi) instead of USB.

What if undocumented? - Ilgaz

I believe each scanner could be using their own protocol. Companies does such things to stop competition. Wonder if it is the case.
