Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

Recommend Product: NO

Funny thing: I've been seeing a bunch of these tools appear both here on VT, MacUpdate, and Softpedia. They all cost $39.99. They all seem to do the same thing. They are all marketed by different resellers but when you download and install them, they all look amazingly alike! Several even have the same installer icon while others have the same UI.

None of them truly seem to work, even in crippled mode.

It's my conclusion that these are all the product of some fly-by-night shop that has distributed them to half a dozen resellers:

iTool, 4Media, Aimersoft, iSky, Xilisoft: They all offer rippers, DVD copiers, converters, suites of the same tools, etc. etc. I even asked one of the developers why his installer screen looked exactly like that of a "competitor." No answer.

Please don't be deceived! Please do not patronize these knock-off rip-off artists. Stick with the tried and true programs that have been around for years (Mac The Ripper, Toast, Handbrake, Fairmount).

Do not waste your money!

A glut of ripping clones that are all the same thing! - Jay

I totally agree. These scumbags tipped their hand by releasing them all within the same month. Are we idiots?

BUYERS BEWARE! - anasazi4st

Yes, stay far away from this one. Xilisoft (also known as a variety of other names) has apparently NO Customer Service. I did careful research and thought I would give them a try (I SHOULD have looked here on versiontracker first!). Anyway, I downloaded the Trial version and it seemed to work okay...so I went ahead and upgraded, paid the $$ for the Upgrade (Full) Version (it should be named FOOL, because that's what you are for doing it)...and somehow accidentally downloaded a copy of the Windows version. As I have a Mac, this was no good. I have no idea how the same website that i downloaded the Mac Trial version suddenly became the Windows one....I sent an email informing them what had happened, and asking for a Registration Code for the Mac version. After several days (January 21 2009) they sent me a letter acknowledging receipt of my email, asking what action I wanted them to take to correct my problem. I responded again...and have sent several emails since, all of which have gone unanswered.
Run away...and, when you think you've run far enough...RUN SOME MORE!
