I must be missing something because this seems to have the same functionality as Stickies which is included in OSX.

Actually, it can do a couple things the Apple version can't such as 1) attaching a sticky to a particular app or file; 2) ability to change opacity of notes; 3) ability to share notes with other computers; 4) ability to snap notes to grid; 5) ability to cascade and tile notes in many different configurations; and quite a bit more. I use it over the native app for all these reasons…
